A sweet and crunchy Toffee Chex Mix perfect for snacking or sharing during holidays. This easy-to-make recipe combines buttery caramel flavors with the satisfying crunch of Chex cereal, optionally enhanced with chopped nuts for extra texture.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 4 cups Chex cereal (any variety)
  • 1 cup chopped nuts (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking the mix.
  2. Melt Butter and Mix: In a medium saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter. Stir in the brown sugar until the mixture becomes bubbly, ensuring the sugar dissolves properly.
  3. Add Flavorings: Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt to create the toffee flavor base.
  4. Combine with Cereal: In a large bowl, gently fold the Chex cereal into the melted mixture until all the cereal is evenly coated. If using, add the chopped nuts and mix thoroughly.
  5. Bake the Mix: Spread the coated mixture evenly on a parchment-lined baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, stirring halfway through to ensure even baking.
  6. Cool and Serve: Remove from the oven and allow the Toffee Chex Mix to cool completely before serving to enjoy its crunchy texture.

Notes

  • Use parchment paper for easy cleanup and to prevent sticking.
  • Chopped nuts are optional but add a nice crunch and flavor variation.
  • Store in an airtight container to keep the mix fresh and crunchy.
  • You can substitute brown sugar with dark brown sugar for a richer flavor.
  • Ensure to stir halfway during baking to prevent burning and promote even coating.
