A delightful and visually stunning Red Velvet Latte that combines the rich flavors of cocoa and beet juice with creamy milk and optional coffee. Perfect for a cozy treat, this latte can be enjoyed with or without coffee and is topped with whipped cream and decorative sprinkles or chocolate shavings.

Ingredients

Red Velvet Latte with Coffee

  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1 tsp granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp beet juice
  • 1/4 cup / 60 ml / 2 fl oz freshly brewed coffee (or 2 shots espresso)
  • 1 cup / 240 ml / 8 fl oz milk

Red Velvet Latte without Coffee

  • 1 tbsp cocoa powder
  • 1/2 tsp granulated sugar (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tbsp beet juice
  • 1 1/4 cups / 300 ml / 10 fl oz milk

Garnish

  • Whipped heavy cream (optional)
  • Sprinkles or chocolate shavings (optional)

Instructions

  1. Brew Coffee: Prepare your coffee or espresso using your preferred method such as a coffee maker with medium-ground coffee and filtered water. Skip this step if making the latte without coffee.
  2. Warm Milk: Heat the milk in a tall glass in the microwave or in a saucepan over the stovetop until warm but not boiling.
  3. Whip Cream: Using a handheld milk frother, whip together heavy cream, 1/2 tablespoon sugar, and 1/8 teaspoon vanilla extract until the cream starts to thicken but does not form peaks. This takes a few seconds. If using canned whipped cream, this step can be skipped. Set aside.
  4. Assemble Drink: In a large mug or tall glass, combine the cocoa powder, granulated sugar, and beet juice. Stir thoroughly until the cocoa powder dissolves completely into the beet juice. For the coffee version, stir in freshly brewed coffee next. Then add warm milk on top and gently stir to blend all the liquids.
  5. Garnish: Spoon the whipped cream over the top of the latte and decorate with heart-shaped sprinkles or chocolate shavings for a festive touch. Your homemade red velvet latte is ready to enjoy!

Notes

  • Use fresh beet juice for a natural red color and subtle sweetness.
  • The sugar is optional and can be adjusted to taste or omitted for a less sweet drink.
  • Heating milk gently prevents scalding and preserves smooth flavor.
  • Milk frothing can be substituted with canned whipped cream if preferred.
  • This latte can be made vegan by substituting dairy milk and cream with plant-based alternatives like almond or oat milk and coconut cream.
