Mini Sausage Cheddar Croissant Rolls are delicious, bite-sized pastries filled with savory breakfast sausage and sharp cheddar cheese, wrapped in golden crescent roll dough. Perfect as an appetizer, snack, or part of a brunch spread, these rolls combine creamy cream cheese and flavorful spices for a rich, cheesy filling inside a flaky, buttery crust.

Ingredients

Dough

  • 1 package (8 oz) crescent roll dough

Filling

  • 1 pound breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1/4 cup cream cheese, softened
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper

Topping

  • 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • Optional: fresh chives or parsley, finely chopped for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Prepare the filling: In a medium bowl, combine the cooked and crumbled sausage, shredded sharp cheddar cheese, softened cream cheese, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Stir well until all ingredients are evenly mixed.
  3. Roll out the dough: Unroll the crescent roll dough on a clean surface, keeping it as one large rectangle without separating the triangles. Pinch seams together firmly to create a single sheet of dough.
  4. Cut into triangles: Using a pizza cutter or sharp knife, slice the dough sheet into approximately 8 triangles, each about 4 inches wide at the base.
  5. Add the filling: Place about one tablespoon of the sausage and cheese mixture at the wide base of each triangle. Carefully roll each triangle from the base towards the tip, forming a crescent shape and enclosing the filling inside.
  6. Prepare for baking: Arrange the rolled croissants on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them evenly. Brush each roll with the beaten egg to achieve a golden-brown, glossy finish.
  7. Bake: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake the croissant rolls for 15 minutes or until they puff up and develop a golden-brown crust.
  8. Cool and garnish: Remove the croissants from the oven and allow them to cool slightly. If desired, sprinkle with finely chopped fresh chives or parsley before serving.
  9. Serve and enjoy: Serve these mini sausage cheddar croissant rolls warm as an appetizer, snack, or part of your brunch menu for a satisfying and flavorful bite.

Notes

  • Make sure the sausage is fully cooked before mixing it with the cheese filling for safety and optimal flavor.
  • For extra crispiness, you can bake on a wire rack set over the baking sheet.
  • The recipe can be made ahead and refrigerated before baking; just add a few extra minutes to the bake time if baking from cold.
  • Substitute turkey sausage for a leaner option or use vegetarian sausage for a vegetarian variation.
  • Use sharp cheddar cheese for the best flavor contrast, but mild cheddar or a blend of cheeses can also work well.
  • If you don't have crescent roll dough, puff pastry sheets can be used as an alternative.
