Kilted Sausage Bites are a deliciously savory appetizer featuring smoky kielbasa sausages wrapped in buttery crescent roll dough, filled with either creamy shredded cheese or rich cream cheese, and topped with a flavorful poppy seed glaze. Baked until golden and crispy, these bite-sized treats are perfect for parties, game days, or a tasty snack any time.

Ingredients

Dough and Filling

  • 2 (8 oz) crescent roll dough sheets
  • 2 (12 oz) kielbasa or smoked sausages
  • 1 cup shredded cheese
  • 4 oz cream cheese
  • 2 teaspoons poppy seeds

Glaze

  • ⅓ cup butter, melted
  • 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a large baking sheet to prevent sticking.
  2. Prepare Dough: Unroll one tube of the crescent roll dough and pinch the seams together to create one large uniform sheet, ready to hold the fillings securely during rolling.
  3. Assemble First Roll: Evenly sprinkle shredded cheese across the surface of the first dough sheet. Place one sausage along the long edge of the dough. If the sausage is curved, slice it in half to facilitate rolling. Roll tightly around the sausage and pinch the seam to seal.
  4. Assemble Second Roll: On the second dough sheet, spread cream cheese over half of the dough instead of shredded cheese. Place the second sausage along the long edge and roll tightly, pinching the seam to secure it.
  5. Slice and Arrange: Using a sharp knife, slice each rolled log into ¾-inch thick rounds. Arrange these rounds on the prepared baking sheet, spaced evenly to ensure even baking.
  6. Prepare Glaze: In a small bowl, combine melted butter, Dijon mustard, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Brush this glaze generously over the tops of all the sausage bites, then sprinkle poppy seeds evenly on top for texture and flavor.
  7. Bake: Bake the prepared rolls in the preheated oven for 15 to 18 minutes, or until the crescent dough turns golden brown, puffy, and crispy.
  8. Serve: Let the sausage bites cool slightly and serve warm with your favorite condiments such as ketchup or mustard for dipping. Enjoy your delicious snack!

  • Feel free to use any shredded cheese of your choice, such as cheddar or mozzarella.
  • Brush glaze generously for a shiny and flavorful finish.
  • These bites can be prepared ahead and baked just before serving.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
