Perfect for an easy lunch or dinner, they combine bold flavors and fresh ingredients for a satisfying and wholesome wrap.

Ingredients

For the Beef:

  • 500g (1 lb) lean ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp dried oregano
  • ½ tsp ground cumin
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the Garlic Yogurt Sauce:

  • ½ cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1 clove garlic, finely grated
  • 1 tsp fresh lemon juice
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Pinch of salt

For the Wraps:

  • 4 pita breads or flatbreads
  • ½ cup diced cucumber
  • ½ cup chopped tomatoes
  • ¼ cup thinly sliced red onion
  • ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • Fresh parsley or dill, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Cook the Beef: Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add minced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 seconds. Then, add the ground beef along with oregano, cumin, salt, and pepper. Cook for 7–8 minutes, breaking up the meat as it browns until fully cooked and nicely seasoned.
  2. Make the Garlic Yogurt Sauce: In a small bowl, whisk together the plain Greek yogurt, finely grated garlic, fresh lemon juice, olive oil, and a pinch of salt until smooth. Chill briefly in the refrigerator if time allows to let flavors meld.
  3. Assemble the Wraps: Warm pita breads lightly in a dry skillet or microwave until pliable. Spread a generous spoonful of the garlic yogurt sauce over each pita. Top with the cooked beef, diced cucumber, chopped tomatoes, thinly sliced red onion, and crumbled feta cheese. Garnish with fresh parsley or dill for added freshness and flavor. Roll up and serve immediately.

Notes

  • You can substitute ground lamb for beef to enhance the Mediterranean flavor.
  • For extra heat, add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the beef while cooking.
  • Warm pita breads just before assembling to avoid them becoming soggy.
  • Leftover garlic yogurt sauce can be refrigerated for up to 2 days.
  • Add olives or a drizzle of tzatziki sauce for extra Greek flavors.
