A decadent and comforting Earl Grey Hot Chocolate that combines the floral notes of Earl Grey tea with rich, creamy hot chocolate for a delicious twist on a classic beverage.

Ingredients

Liquid Base

  • 470 g milk, dairy or non-dairy
  • 235 g heavy cream

Tea

  • 4 Earl Grey tea bags

Chocolate

  • 150 g milk or dark chocolate, finely chopped

Instructions

  1. Heat the Milk and Cream: In a small pot, combine the milk and heavy cream. Warm over medium heat until small bubbles begin to form around the edges, indicating it's simmering but not boiling.
  2. Steep the Tea: Remove the pot from heat and add the Earl Grey tea bags. Cover the pot and let the tea steep for 10 minutes to infuse the milk with the aromatic flavors of Earl Grey.
  3. Extract Tea and Melt Chocolate: Press the tea bags against the side of the pot with a spatula or through a fine mesh sieve to extract all the liquid. Discard the tea bags. Return the pot to low heat and stir in the chopped chocolate until it is fully melted and smooth.
  4. Serve: Pour the hot chocolate into mugs. Optionally, top with toasted marshmallows or whipped cream for added indulgence and serve immediately.

Notes

  • For a dairy-free version, use almond, oat, or soy milk and coconut cream.
  • Dark chocolate provides a richer, more intense chocolate flavor; milk chocolate creates a sweeter and creamier drink.
  • Steeping the tea longer will intensify the Earl Grey flavor; adjust steep time to taste.
  • Toasting marshmallows on top adds a delightful smoky sweetness that complements the tea and chocolate.
  • Use a fine mesh sieve for pressing the tea bags to avoid any tea leaves in your drink.
