This Chicken Crust Pizza is a low-carb, protein-packed alternative to traditional pizza. Made with a crispy ground chicken base and topped with classic pizza sauce and gooey mozzarella, it's perfect for those looking to enjoy pizza without the usual carb load. The crust is seasoned with Italian herbs and garlic powder for a flavorful foundation, baked to golden perfection, then topped and baked again for a bubbly, cheesy finish. Garnish with fresh basil or herbs for an extra touch of freshness.

Ingredients

Crust Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken (93% lean preferred)
  • 1 egg
  • 0.5 cup grated Parmesan or mozzarella cheese
  • 0.5 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 0.25 tsp salt

Toppings

  • 3–4 tbsp pizza sauce of choice
  • 0.5 cup shredded mozzarella cheese (for topping)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil or garlic oil (optional, for brushing crust)
  • 1 fresh basil or chopped herbs (optional garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet or pizza pan with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
  2. Make the Chicken Crust Mixture: In a medium bowl, combine the ground chicken, egg, grated Parmesan or mozzarella cheese, garlic powder, Italian seasoning, and salt. Mix gently until just combined to avoid toughness.
  3. Form the Crust: Press the chicken mixture evenly into a 10-inch circle on the prepared baking sheet, making sure it’s about ¼ inch thick for even cooking.
  4. Bake the Crust: Place the crust in the oven and bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the crust feels firm to touch.
  5. Add Toppings: Remove the crust from oven. Spread the pizza sauce evenly over the crust. Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese on top and add any desired additional toppings.
  6. Final Bake and Broil: Return the pizza to the oven and bake for another 8–10 minutes, until the cheese has melted completely. For a bubbly and browned top, broil for an additional 2 minutes—watch closely to avoid burning.
  7. Rest and Finish: Let the pizza rest for 2–3 minutes to allow flavors to settle. Optionally, brush the crust edges with olive or garlic oil and sprinkle fresh basil or chopped herbs. Slice and serve hot.

Notes

  • Use lean ground chicken for best texture and less grease.
  • Make sure the crust is pressed evenly for uniform baking.
  • Broiling is optional but gives a nice golden finish to the cheese.
  • You can customize toppings as you like, but avoid overly wet toppings to prevent sogginess.
  • Letting the pizza rest before slicing helps keep the crust intact.
