Alabama Fire Crackers are a spicy, flavorful snack made by coating saltine crackers in a zesty blend of ranch seasoning, crushed red pepper flakes, and aromatic spices, then baking them to a perfect crisp. This addictive snack is perfect for game days, parties, or anytime you want a crunchy, savory treat with a kick.

Ingredients

Crackers

  • 1 (16 oz) box saltine crackers

Seasoned Oil Mixture

  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 packet ranch dressing mix
  • 1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Crackers: Place the saltine crackers into a large ziplock bag or airtight container ensuring there's enough space to toss the crackers easily.
  2. Mix the Seasoned Oil: In a bowl, whisk together 1 cup vegetable oil, 1 packet ranch dressing mix, 1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, and ½ teaspoon black pepper until well combined.
  3. Coat the Crackers: Pour the seasoned oil mixture over the crackers in the bag. Seal the bag tightly and gently toss or shake to coat all the crackers evenly with the spicy mixture.
  4. Marinate the Crackers: Let the crackers sit in the sealed bag for at least 4 hours, preferably overnight, flipping the bag occasionally to ensure even absorption of flavors.
  5. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 250 degrees Fahrenheit (120 degrees Celsius) to prepare for baking.
  6. Bake the Crackers: Spread the coated crackers out in a single layer on a baking sheet. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, stirring them halfway through to ensure even crisping.
  7. Cool and Serve: Remove the crackers from the oven and let them cool completely on the baking sheet before serving to allow them to become crunchy.

Notes

  • For extra heat, increase the crushed red pepper flakes to 1.5 tablespoons.
  • Use ranch dressing mix without MSG if you prefer a cleaner ingredient list.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature to maintain crispness.
  • These crackers can be made in advance and stored for up to one week.
  • Substitute vegetable oil with canola oil for a lighter taste if desired.
